Having direct conversations with your audience
Odds are very likely that you are familiar with live talk shows, either on radio or television. It’s even possible that you or your closest neighbor have your favorite.
By the way, that’s not new.
Live talk shows are always the salt of entertaining content. They are somehow the backbone of broadcasting – judging from their popularity in our airwaves.
With the advent of online radio, it’s now even worse. As “familiarity breeds acceptance”, talk shows have become more pervasive in our media networks.
But why so much popularity?
Chat shows are raw
This genre is made of unstructured and purposeful talk. The concept is simply the hybrid of talk and broadcast, i.e. studio debates, audience discussions, or interviews.
It is true that we at times repel against scripted and conventional content. That’s because we feel spammed or bombarded because of the “made-up” impression.
Nonetheless, live talk shows eliminate all those doubts since they are spontaneous. They are broadcast in the “now moment”, which is why we regard them as fresh content.
As it happens, online radio stations have learned that. They broadcast floods of raw and uncut shows to sustain their dominance in broadcasting.
Live talk shows value audiences ‘engagement
Value is the determining factor in gaining people’s attention. Live talk shows confirm that, which is the reason they are a popular genre.
When you look at traditional radio programs, there’s always a boundary between the media and citizens. A thick line that separates the audience’s involvement with the spread content.
However, live talk shows break away from that convention. They encourage our participation and voice. In fact, it is audiences more than the producers who reinforce the possibility of these programs.
An easy genre to produce
Chat shows are less stressful when it comes to production. That’s due to their authenticity, which discards the contribution of scriptwriters and directors.
From the production side, what’s mostly required it’s a topic of either social, political, or personal concern. The rest necessitate the audience on how they share their views on that particular topic.
