23 police officials were arrested, on alleged corruption at the OR Tambo International airport on Friday 7 August 2020 on charges of Theft, Corruption and money extortion. The arrest comes after a 3-year intelligent driven investigation on alleged corruption.
The officers are accused of selling confiscated drugs from drug mules who were incarcerated. 12 officers,6 Police Sergeants, 4 Constables and a warrant officer were handcuffed. 20 dockets were opened to register and record all the crimes committed. R1 Million in hard cash was seized at one of the officers house during the arrest however 5 arrests are still pending as 1 of the suspect is in Quarantine and the others are expected to hand themselves over to the Police. The accused are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate Court on Tuesday the 11th of August.

In a separate case in Springs Johannesburg 13 people were arrested for allegedly reselling expired goods at a Warehouse amounting to an estimated price of R2 Million. Ekurhuleni Metro Police were working on a tip-off that lead to the arrest. MMC for Community Safety Phaledi Moko said:”..These things are mostly found in spaza shops.”
