More lives lost on the road due to reckless driving
A truck driver is on the run, after causing a fatal accident on the R33 Kwazulu Natal outside Pietermaritzburg in the Morning.
Emergency services were alerted about the accident, involving a Truck driver(Tipper,) fuel tanker, bakkie and a minibus taxi.
It is said that the Tipper truck driver, failed to stop the Tipper truck at the Wartburg interchange Stop sign, this resulted to the Fuel Tanker to lose control and collided with the minibus taxi. The Taxi was carrying 15 passengers and the driver, 13 passengers including a pregnant woman died at the scene, survivors were taken to hospital.
The Kwazulu Natal SAPS has officially launched a search for the Tipper Truck driver. According to KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Mbele, a case of culpable homicide and reckless driving was opened pending further investigation, including negligent driving and failing to comply with the rules of the road.
The tragic accident happened a week before the start of Road safety month (October)(October).
