Acting King of the Abathembu has been fired by the Eastern cape premier Oscar Mbuyane and asked to evacuate the offices, Azenathi Dalindyebo was appointed Acting king of the Abathembu 3 years ago while his father King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo was serving a jail term at the East London Correctional Facility for kidnapping, assault and defeating the ends of justice.
The acting King’s contract is said to have expired on the 8th of February at the beginning of this year, in which he was reminded through a formal letter sent to him on the 19th of June. The premier justified his actions that this was mandated by section 26, sub-section 5 of 2017 which allows the Premier to review an acting appointment of an acting traditional leader every three years to establish whether the acting appointment was still necessary.
Corporative Governance and traditional affairs are expected to collect all possessions belonging to the government namely cars, petrol cards and cellphones. The royal family wrote to COGTA enquiring as to why Azenathi was still receiving government benefits even after his contract expired.
King Dalindyebo will be re-coronated since he left his throne in 2015 to serve his 15 years life in prison, and he was released on a special remission of the sentence by President Cyril Ramaphosa as part of a Reconciliation Day decision to grant special remission to certain categories of offenders.
