Three Police Officers and 2 suspects were shot and wounded, following a shootout at the Tshwane District Pretoria on the 5th of August 2020 in a taxi violence related case.10 suspects were arrested at the scene and 4 Unlicensed firearms were seized at the scene.
Police National spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said an intelligence operation was investigating a taxi violence case. Which led them to the location of the suspected perpetrators, when the police tried to reach the suspect who was accompanied by 3 other vehicles, they opened fire at the police and the police retaliated.
Best Care Emergency Services spokesperson Xander Loubser confirmed that Two police officers were airlifted to Milpark hospital.
In a separate incident, On Thursday morning 6 August 2020 armed robbers made off with an undisclosed amount of cash at a SASSA paypoint in Ndwendwe,North of Durban. The robbers approached the pay site, fired shots, assaulted the security guard and took his firearm. Two SASSA officials sustained minor injuries and some of the SASSA recepients on the scene were harmed. The armed robbers drove off in a hired Post office vehicle.
SASSA KZN regional Manager Themba Matlou has vowed to tighten security in SASSA pay sites and has urged anyone with information about the arm robbers to contact police.
