The African National Congress’s Integrity Commission is expected to deal with numerous cases of misconduct by the party members.
PPE tender scandals.
The ANC has been widely criticized by members of the public and other political parties for alleged corruption on the procurement of PPE’s. Prominent ANC members, including the Presidential spokeswoman Khusela Diko and Gauteng health MEC Bandile Msuku are among those investigated for Tender fraud. President Cyril Ramaphosa assigned the Special Investigative Unit (SIU) to probe an investigation on the awarding of PPE tenders and the involvement of ANC officials in the awarding of tenders.
The Provincial Executive committee (PEC), says an update on the outcomes of the SIU investigations will be released later this week as well as that of the party’s integrity committee.
Jet-off to Zimbabwe.
Defence Minister, Nosiviwe Mapisa Nqakula, came under fire after she supposedly gave ANC officials a ”lift” to Zimbabwe. President Ramaphosa sent an envoy to Zimbabwe over allegations of human rights violations which resulted in protests. The envoy only met the ruling party ZANU-PF in which the official opposition party MDC slammed the act, requesting that the ANC also meet with them.
Last week, Four top ANC officials were sent to Zimbabwe to meet with both the governing and the opposition party. The trip coincidently clashed with that of Defence Minister Mapisa-Nqakula to Zimbabwe, this led to the ANC delegates to fly using the SANDF AIRFORCE along with the minister to Zimbabwe. This triggered an outrage in the country as to why unasigned members of the ruling party used state transportation. The president requested an explanation from the Minister in which it is said the president is still examining the report. However, the party says it will repay the expenditures incurred during the travel. The delegates were also slammed for breaking Lockdown regulations for not self-isolating after international travel.
KZN Municipal officials accused of Rape among other charges.
Eleven KZN municipal officials are accused of rape, attempted murder, Stock theft, Corruption, driving under the influence of alcohol, murder and illegally receiving child support grants from the government respectively. The ANC in the province wants these members to step aside until their names are cleared from these allegations.
Former Ethekwini Mayor, Zandile Gumede is under investigation over allegations of fraud and corruption amounting to R400 Million in the Durban Solid Waste (DSW) tender. The mayor has since stepped aside pending further investigations.
