Russia is the first country to approve a Coronavirus vaccine, President Vladimir Putin announced on Tuesday 11 August 2020. On his announcement Putin said: “As far as I know, this morning for the first time in the world, a vaccine against the novel coronavirus infection was registered,” Putin added: “I know this very well because one of my daughters got vaccinated, so in this sense, she took part in testing.The vaccine, labeled “Sputnik-V,” forms stable cell and antibody immunity”, he said.
Despite the uncertainty of the Vaccine, as criticized by medical experts and not having the back up of the World Health Organization (WHO),the vaccine is said to have not undergone all the necessary measures to be approved as the appropriate vaccine of the Coronavirus, it has not undergone the 3rd phase of clinical trials to administer it as a vaccine to humans.
As it stands today Russia has 890,790 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 14,970 fatalities and planning to roll out the first phase of the vaccine to Medical workers, teachers and workers who came in contact with those infected at work.
It is reported that over billion dosages have been ordered by 20 countries around the world.
