At least 18 people died and several passengers seriously injured, after a plane crash in India on Friday night 7 August 2020. It was reported that the Air India Express (AIE) Boeing 702 was carrying 190 people on board including crew members.

The plane was repatriating people from Dubai to India in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, it drifted off the runway and broke into two on its second attempt to land on a rainy weather condition at Kozhikode airport in Kerala Southwestern Malabar Coast. International travel restrictions were imposed in different countries to contain the spread of the virus which trapped the 184 passengers in Dubai. 15 of those passengers were reported to have already lost their jobs,2 of them were coming back from their wedding and 12 were returning from medical emergency.

Emergency and rescue services arrived at the scene,to assist survivors, there was no fire breakout which had a positive impact on the number of casualties. Emergency services crew members were seen spraying water on the plane as mandatory measures on such events.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation official said, “The DFDR and CVR, which have been recovered from the plane, will help in finding the cause of this accident.” The devices were handed over to  Aircraft Accident investigation Bureau, for further clarity on the cause of the tragic accident.
